Ira Glass at New Hope Community Church
Oregon Public Broadcasting is hosting Ira Glass, host of "This American Life" on October 7th at New Hope Community Church. There's been some uproar because this church supported the Yes on 36 campaign back in 2004 that solidified a ban on gay marriage.
Our office loves public radio and really enjoy Ira Glass's show. We are curious: Does one support OPB and see a pretty cool show in a church that doesn't agree with our beliefs? Or, does one not attend in support of fellow Oregonians that are not recognized as equals when it comes to marriage?

New Hope isn't stopping at opposing marriage equality; they are actively circulating petitions to try to take away domestic partnerships and the ban on discrimination that the legislature passed this year. How could OPB pay $1500 to rent a venue that actively opposes even the most basic right--the right to hold down a job free from discrimination--and then think that people who care about fairness would pay to go there? It breaks my heart, because I love Ira Glass and This American Life, and I went to see him last summer when he was here, but I can't go to New Hope.
Fortunately, although OPB wasn't willing to make the change earlier, Ira Glass has gotten involved and requested a change of venue. Let's hope they listen to him!
