Has your family noticed the spike? What, if anything, are you doing to save on food?

What a surprise! Politicians jump on the AlGore bandwagon and mandate that all fuels in the Portland area contain x amount of biofool. It's most visible here, but happens wherever politicians who know better than the rest of the folks attempt to socially-engineer lifestyles of the great unwashed.
In the USA, ethanol is largely derived from corn - great for farmers, but bad for feed producers. Political hijinks, in other words, are driving up the costs of everything from tortillas to milk and eggs - just so that they can show that they "care" about the environment.
Oh, and since ethanol produces 20% less power per gallon than petrofuel, it means that distributors have to pay more to get product to market.
Gee, isn't it nice that politicians can feel good about themselves?
