Construction begins on SE 282nd and Stone Rd. improvements
Improvements to the intersection of SE 282nd Avenue and SE Stone Road in rural East Multnomah County will begin the week of June 2 and be completed this fall. Multnomah County has contracted with Dirt and Aggregate Interchange of Fairview to construct the roughly $900,000 project.
The improvements are intended to reduce crashes that have occurred at the intersection in recent years by improving traffic flow. About 6,000 vehicles a day pass through the intersection. The project will:
• Add left turn lanes on SE 282nd approaching Stone Road from both directions
• Realign the east leg of SE Stone Road at the intersection to be directly across from the west leg, replacing a dogleg intersection
• Replace a box culvert under SE 282nd with a short bridge, with appropriate environmental mitigation
The Stone Road legs of the intersection will continue to have stop signs while traffic on 282nd will flow freely.
Traffic changes during construction
Construction will require road closures and detours at times.
• 282nd will be widened in June and early July. This work will not require a road closure or detour.
• The east leg of SE Stone Road (from 282nd to a point 500 feet east) will be closed the month of June. When SE Stone Road is closed, traffic will be detoured to either SE Orient Drive to SE Short Road or SE Stone Road to Highway 26.
• The north leg of SE 282nd will be closed from July through October during construction of the new bridge. When the road is closed, traffic will be detoured to either SE Short Road to SE Orient Drive or SE Stone Road to Highway 26.
In-water work in Johnson Creek, which passes under SE 282nd, needs to be completed between July 15 and August 31 to comply with environmental rules.
Multnomah County maintains this intersection, except for the southern leg of SE 282nd Ave. which is maintained by Clackamas County.
