Potential traffic snafus at MLK and Grand: May 27 to May 30
Highway 99E (Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Grand Ave.) Viaduct Replacement: Work is under way on a project to replace the Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Grand Avenue viaducts on Highway 99E. Normal daytime work hours are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The contractor has closed the ramp connecting westbound Division Street to northbound Highway 99E (Grand Avenue). This ramp is scheduled to be closed until 2010 to allow crews to remove the existing northbound viaduct and build a new structure. During the ramp closure, motorists will be directed to take Division Street to northbound 7th Avenue to westbound Clay Street to northbound Highway 99E (Grand Avenue).
The contractor will continue working on construction of bridge footings and columns for the new southbound Highway 99E (MLK Jr. Boulevard) bridge structure from Tuesday, May 27, to Friday, May 30. Foundation construction will require one-way traffic controlled by flaggers on Division Street between SE 3rd Avenue and SW 7th Avenue, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. In addition, Caruthers Street or Division Place may be closed alternately below the viaduct for foundation construction west of Grand Avenue. Detour signs will direct motorists.
