The new library siting - Jeff asks the community one more time

Jeff, the libraries and facilities have narrowed the search for a library site in North Portland from three locations to two - the Tri-Met site and the N. Denver site. Both choices are equally wonderful and have positives that would make each a great library. Because these sites are so great, we'd like the community to weigh in one more time to help Jeff make that final choice.

We'll have a public meeting Thursday, May 29th, 7 to 9pm at the Masonic Lodge, 8130 N Denver Ave. Please join us!

If you can't make it, we'll post a video on this site on May 29th that talks about the two choices. You can make your voice heard in the "comments" section.

Could you give addresses for both those sites for those of us who haven't heard anything about this for awhile? (if ever -- maybe this is new from the Lombard vs. New Columbia library discussion from a couple years ago?). I don't know what "the Tri Met" site is. A google maps link would be kind of cool! or maybe just a link to prior discussions? I just got an email notifying me of discussion, which is why I'm paying a [teeny, probably fleeting] bit of attention now.

Sorry to be so out of the loop, and thanks so much!

Great suggestion, Mary. The site now links to Google Maps of both sites.

We are a young family with a 6 year old and 3 year old who are very excited to have a library in the neighborhood. Either site would be just great in Kenton! I guess I'd say the Denver location is a bit better from the perspective that the main street in the neighborhood could use another good tenant to help out the businesses that have stuck their head out to make Denver a more attractive place to visit.

Commissioner,...

I would love to see the new library at the 8226 N Denver location! "Downtown Kenton", as I like to call it, is really coming around! There are several new restaurants and shops, and the new library would be a great partner in continuing the revitalization of that business area.

See you at the meeting on the 29th...!

I love the idea of having it at the N Denver location. It is central to where people are walking around, hanging out, eating, etc. in 'main street Kenton'. It seems more logical and in the middle of everything than the Argyle location, which to me is more out of the way. I think it would be great to have it in the main street Kenton area and a positive boost to the Denver street. I'd go there if it wa on Denver as I find myself there from time to time already and I doubt I'm the only one. My vote is 100% for N Denver.

The Argyle location isn't bad, but it is a street that people rarely walk on, and when they do it is with trepidation.

The block in question, while close to Kenton Park, is mostly industrial. Cars often park on the sidewalk on the South side, forcing pedestrians into the street. The North side is home to a warehouse and an empty lot.

From a standpoint of accessibility, the Denver location is the clear winner.

Also, sorry I missed the meeting! I just found out about it this morning. Can someone fill me in on what was discussed?
