Make This A Carefree Weekend By Supporting Safe And Sober Driving

Police will be out in full force August 15 to Labor Day cracking down on drunk drivers. The message is simple: No matter what you drive—a passenger car, pickup, sport utility vehicle or motorcycle—if you are caught driving impaired, you will be arrested. No exceptions. No excuses. Law enforcement will be out in force conducting sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols and using undercover officers to get more drunk drivers off the road—and save lives that might otherwise be lost.

Drunk driving is one of America’s deadliest problems. Driving with a BAC of .08 or higher is illegal in every state. Yet far too many people suffer debilitating injuries and loss of their loved ones as a result of impaired driving. This careless disregard for human life must stop.

The national Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest. enforcement crackdown will get impaired drivers off of the roads.

Follow the steps below to enjoy a safe and festive Labor Day celebration without jeopardizing your life or the lives of others on the road. Keep your celebration safe this Labor Day Weekend.

• Plan ahead: If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a sober driver before going out and give that person your keys.

• If you’re impaired: Call a taxi, use mass transit or call a sober friend or family member to drive you home safely or stay where you are.

• Promptly report drunk drivers on the roadways to law enforcement.

• And remember, Friends Don’t Let Friends Drive Drunk. If you know someone who is about to drive or ride a motorcycle while impaired, take their keys and help them make other arrangements to get.

Driving impaired is simply not worth the risk. The human toll is only half the picture. Not only do you risk killing yourself or someone else, but the trauma and financial costs of a crash or an arrest for driving while impaired can be significant. Violators often face jail time, the loss of their driver’s license, higher insurance rates, and dozens of other unanticipated expenses.

Do your part to make this a carefree weekend for everyone by driving safely and sober.
