Wheeler Names Rinehart Chief of Staff
Multnomah County Chair Ted Wheeler announced today that he has named Tom Rinehart to serve as his Chief of Staff. For the last four years Rinehart has served as Executive Director of Metropolitan Alliance for Common Good (MACG).
“I’ve asked Tom to provide leadership to my staff and to help sharpen our focus on my priorities for Multnomah County,” said Wheeler. “The challenges that Multnomah County faces cannot be
overcome without the full engagement of the community. Tom has the skills to bring people together and to find new ways to use the considerable strengths of our community to meet our pressing needs.”
Rinehart’s accomplishments at MACG have included working with congregations, labor union locals and community groups to support job creation, affordable housing, clean-up of meth houses and health care for low-income Oregonians. Prior to his work at MACG, he served for three years as Executive Director of the Rhode Island Organizing project where he helped community groups win affordable housing and after school programs. He has also worked in homeless shelters, as a union organizer and as a 9th grade teacher.
Rinehart graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Government and International Studies. Rinehart will manage the Chair’s Office staff and will work with Chief Operating Officer Bill
Farver to implement the Chair’s priorities.
