Climate Action Plan Town Halls
The City of Portland and Multnomah County have drafted a new action plan to lead our community forward in the charge against global warming. The draft 2009 Climate Action Plan is a strategy to decrease local carbon emissions 80 percent by 2050.
The plan identifies high-level goals and specific actions to be accomplished in the next three years to accelerate local efforts to address this issue.
Everything from high-level policy changes and expanded bicycle master plans to on-the-ground, every day practices like insulating our homes, walking to the grocery store and eating less red meat can mean a healthier planet, and healthier families, if we all pitch in.
Join your friends and neighbors to discuss the Climate Action Plan at one of the neighborhood Town Halls listed below. We need your help to shape this strategy.

Overall, the City of Portland and Multnomah County Draft Climate Action Plan is a social engineering document whereby local government is endeavoring to dictate the lifestyle, housing, transportation and even the food choices of the people. The biggest threat to the environment and sustainability of the planet is the over population of the human race. Yet the action plan aims to accommodate an increase in population growth with dense jam-packed and crowded heat island development rather than discouraging population growth.
Adopting the plan as proposed throws out the democracy this country was founded on and turns Portland and Multnomah County into a socialist nanny state where elected officials become totalitarian dictators utilizing fear to control life’s day to day activities. The plan also places handcuffs on the economy by only promoting specific types of jobs while ignoring how existing jobs will be eliminated. Additional handcuffs in the plan include the discrimination of excessively and belligerently taxing modern mobility to fund special self-interest agendas like specialized infrastructure for freeloading deadbeat bicyclists, and paying for financially unsustainable out dated streetcar systems where producing the steel rails and digging up the streets to put them in creates far more negative eco effects than can be made up for during even an extended lifespan of the initial rolling stock equipment. How is it with Oregon’s manipulative effort and emphasis on a so called green economy that Oregon (including Portland) currently has the second highest unemployment rate of any state in the Nation? Undoubtedly it is too much social engineering and interference in the economy by the state and local governments!
Moreover, implementing a document like the Climate Action Plan will make over Pioneer Square into the likes of Tiananmen Square 30 years ago, eventually with an up rising of the people standing their ground against the new dictatorial government and the consequences of socialism. Implementation will have all those US troops who fought for freedom, democracy and died in the Battle of Normandy 65 years ago rolling over in their graves. The best place for the majority of this socialist plan is in the shredder!
