Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Day
Commissioner Cogen is working to raise awareness of Earned Income Tax Credits today by speaking at a free-tax preparation event happening this morning at Concordia University, and by sponsoring a proclamation recognizing Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Day.
The IRS estimates that up to 25% of eligible households fail to apply for EITC credits they are due, which can be worth more than $5,000 depending on family size. The EITC brings badly needed dollars to families in our community, including families where income may be lower this year due to a job loss. Even people who owe no federal taxes or are not required to file a return may be eligible for the credit. Visit CASH Oregon for a list of free tax preparation sites near you and other helpful information.
